Adaptable to practically any size. Babies and infants cannot understand that medical devices need to stay in place. Therefore it is necessary in certain cases to immobilise arms and hands, e.g. to prevent arm infusions from being torn out by sudden motions and to make sure the infant cannot grab foreign bodies. The splint can also be used for stabilising and immobilising the elbow, for instance in cases of rheumatic diseases or sprains. The affected arm remains accessible at all times, as the MeropeStyle® Pediatric ArmControl™ can be put on and taken off easily.

Meniscal surgeries and the treatment of fractures or inflammations of the knee joint involve immobilisation over a longer period of time. Depending on the complaints, the knee is immobilised in a 0° position. During the rehabilitation period, the brace can still be worn at night.

Surgical treatment of the knee requires temporary postoperative stabilisation of the knee joint before starting subsequent intensive physiotherapy. In the immediate postoperative period, the joint must be kept stable and motion restricted. Four important ligaments have a stabilising effect on the knee joint:  the MCL (medial collateral ligament) stabilises the knee on its medial side, the LCL (lateral collateral ligament) stabilises the knee on its lateral side. Furthermore the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and the PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) stabilise the joint centrally, the ACL lying in front of the PCL, both together building a cross. Ligament injuries lead to instability of the knee joint. Rupture of a collateral ligament affects the mediolateral stability (varus/valgus), whereas injuries to the cruciate ligaments influence the anteroposterior and rotational stability of the knee. The MeropeStyle® Proflex® knee brace supports and stabilises the knee after ligament injuries and surgeries while keeping the patient mobile.

Every leg has a different shape, depending on the size and weight of each individual patient. Some manufacturers therefore offer customised braces, which involves a high amount of work and effort, consequently leading to high cost. However, no evidence has been provided concerning the therapeutic benefit of such customised braces. Therefore ready-made adjustable braces represent a reasonable solution, both from the therapeutic and from the economic point of view. Nowadays meniscus injuries and cruciate ligament ruptures are often treated via an arthroscopic approach, which requires two tiny incisions only. Compared to open surgery, arthroscopies carry a reduced risk and preserve a maximum of tissue. One of the tiny incisions is made for the camera lens which provides an insight into the affected joint. The other incision serves as a pathway for the minimally-invasive instruments used to conduct the surgical intervention. Despite these small incisions, all surgical steps are performed as usual. For immobilisation during the first days after surgery we recommend the MeropeStyle® VarioRest® knee brace, our particularly flexible immobilisation brace.
